Black Sands Homebrew Shop Opens Todayblacksandsbeer.com
The full Black Sands brewery at 701 Haight may still be a few months away, but one part of the concept is now open for business.

Beer hobbyists can head to the Pierce Street entrance of the space to check out the new pop-up homebrew supply store, which opens today.

There, you'll find all you need to make your own beer at home, both in terms of ingredients and equipment. The ingredients lineup includes dozens of varieties of hops, yeasts, and malts from all over the world, while the equipment will range from the basic (starter kits) to the more advanced.  There will also be recipes and advice available from head brewer Cole Emde, who'll be running the shop. Here's more about what's on offer from Black Sands:

"We are carrying 5 base malts, and 18 specialty malts from North America, Europe and even the Patagonia region. Our hops selection will include all the major staples from Yakima Valley and Europe, as well as rare and new upcoming varieties from New Zealand and Australia. Our yeast selection includes the necessary staples of dry and live cultures with a great selection from local california yeast producers GigaYeast. The Black Sands homebrew shop will have everything for local homebrewers to make their favorite recipes at home, and the variety to experiment with new things as well."

As of today, the Black Sands homebrew shop will be open on weekends from 10am to 6pm at 185 Pierce Street. If customer demand requires it, they'll consider opening the shop on weekdays as well.

Meanwhile, construction continues on the Black Sands brewery, which is delayed due to unexpected foundation issues. As of the last report, permits have been pulled, shoring is complete and new drilling has begun to start the work on replacing the foundation. We'll keep you updated, and in the meantime, check out the new offering today if you're a homebrewer or looking to get in on the beer-making action.
