Silent film lovers, this weekend at the Castro Theatre is for you. On Saturday, September 20th, the Castro Theatre will play host to the San Francisco Silent Film Festival’s fall showcase. Entitled “Silent Autumn”,  the day-long festival will feature five notable films from the 1910s and 20s. 
The Castro Theatre is the perfect venue for the festival’s seasonal event, itself debuting in the 1920s just before the end of the silent film era. The weekend's features include a series of shorts from the early 20th century slapstick comedy duo Laurel and Hardy; a psychological thriller digitally remastered in 4K resolution; a Civil War story considered to be "one of the greatest films ever made"; and a feature film starring the famous Italian actor Rudolph Valentino (of The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse).

So if you’re a silent film lover and want to experience the Castro Theatre as it was in the romantic silent film era, stop by the theatre on Saturday or pick up your tickets in advance.

Another Fine Mess: Silent Laurel and Hardy Shorts (1928-1929)
11am - Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy make mayhem in these Hal Roach-produced shorts with musical accompaniment by Donald Sosin.

The Son of the Sheik (1926)
1pm - Rudolph Valentino's last feature shimmers in this beautiful new restoration (a premiere!) set to a new score composed and performed by Alloy Orchestra.

A Night at the Cinema in 1914 (1914)
3:30pm - Marking the centenary of WWI, this glorious miscellany of short subjects recreates a typical night out at the cinema in 1914. Music by Donald Sosin.

The General (1926)
7pm - Buster Keaton's brilliant Civil War tale is considered one of the greatest films ever made. Musical accompaniment by Alloy Orchestra.

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920)
9pm - Robert Wiene's expressionist film is one of the most influential psychological thrillers of all time. US premiere of the 4K digital restoration.
