Hanging out around Civic Center at sundown probably doesn't sound like your idea of a good time.

But what if the area featured a beer garden? And live music, and food trucks, and cocktails? Now it's not sounding quite so dire, is it ...

Tonight, head to UN Plaza for the debut of the Friday Night Market, a new event that promises to transform the heart of Mid-Market – at least for a few hours a week.

Some highlights include:

  • A beer garden featuring craft beers, wine, and cocktails, with happy hour specials until 6pm
  • 11 rotating food trucks and stands like Curry Up Now, Sunrise Deli and Frozen Kuhsterd
  • Music from DJs and bands, including local rock group The Highway Poets
  • More than 45 local vendors and artists selling their wares
  • Games, DIY workshops, dancing, and other entertainment

The Friday Night Markets will run weekly from tonight through October 24th. If this eight-week trial proves popular, the events might become a regular Civic Center fixture.

Tonight's debut is scheduled for 4pm to 9pm at UN Plaza, on Market Street between 7th and 8th. If you attend, check back in and let us know how it was.
