There's a lot going on this weekend, including a fresh season and free music.

Yes, that's right: in cased you missed it, this past Monday the 22nd was the autumnal equinox, so we're now celebrating fall, which means longer nights for doing all that stuff you do after dark.

It also means it's time for pumpkins, squashes and gourds (above at Cole Hardware): bakers, rejoice. And start keeping an eye out for pumpkin beers in the 'hood.

In events, tonight at 5pm (until 8:45pm), the de Young's Friday Nights at the de Young series features a drag pageant and Latin film festival.

Also tonight, at 6:30pm, the Booksmith is hosting its bi-monthly Bookswap. This month's theme is music, in honor of Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, with special guest Gina Arnold. Tickets are $25.

Speaking of which, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass is coming right up next weekend: lineup available here. That'll involve a few hundred thousand extra people dropping in, so remember to get your Golden Gate Park sunshine fun in this weekend, while you can.

Sunday is the Cole Valley Fair, which will feature local vendors, music, and edible treats.

Then, also on Sunday from noon to 5pm at Sharon Meadow in Golden Gate Park, Alice 97.3 is hosting a free concert featuring Matt Nathanson (2:10pm) and Neon Trees (3:30pm). There will be a bike valet, and food and drink for sale.

And finally, if you're in the mood for something a little different, the Golden Gate Park Band will be performing a jazz show on the music concourse, Sunday at 1pm.

So whatever you do, have fun and play nice.
