Construction Watch: Yet Another Update On 435 DubocePhoto: Andrew Dudley / Hoodline
Stop us if you've heard this one before.

435 Duboce, a building that has been under renovation for four years, should be completed in just a few more months.

Back in November of 2013, a representative of Doorman Properties (which was managing the building at the time) told us that the building's units would be ready by January 1, 2014. Needless to say, January came and went, and yet several months later the building remains incomplete. The website for the property is also now defunct, though you can view an archived version here.

Today we checked in with Pang Ly, co-owner of the building along with husband Garrin Wong. Pang tells us that Doorman is no longer involved in the project, which would explain the lapsed website. Construction should be completed by mid-December, Pang says, with the units available in 2015.  And although the ground floor retail space had been advertised last summer, it remains unleased, as the owners have yet to find the right tenant.

"Although there has been good interest, we are holding out for a retailer that will truly benefit our neighborhood," Pang says.

When asked why the site has missed its original projected completion date(s) by such a wide margin, Pang cites unspecified "challenges."

"Alas a project of this size and scope is always going to present greater challenges in solid construction. It is like building seven homes at once."

We've been burned plenty of times on this one, but we'll check back in mid-December just in case this latest deadline turns out to be the real deal.
