Hayes Valley's Samovar Closing For Sleek Tea Bar Remodel
Published on October 07, 2014
Up until recently, Samovar Tea Lounge was best known for its cozy sit-down locations in Hayes Valley, the Castro, and Yerba Buena. That is, until June, when the Samovar team debuted a sleek and shiny new tea bar on Valencia Street.
The Mission spot marked a departure from Samovar's previous incarnations, with a contemporary feel, handsome "tea-brewing crucibles" and breezy single-cup servings. Now, we've learned that the Samovar Tea Lounge at 297 Page Street will be undergoing a makeover to look more like its youthful Valencia Street sister spot.
"We are closing the Page Street Samovar location with the plan to reopen as a tea bar model similar in concept to our Valencia location," confirmed Samovar owner Jesse Jacobs, who told us he's excited about the potential for new customers from the area's ongoing residential building boom.
Starting today, the 297 Page Street location will be closed while an interior revamp takes place. No word yet on how long the remodel will take, but it's likely that a streamlined tea menu, modern interior update, and earlier hours are all in the works.
"We are grateful to the neighborhood for supporting us all these years at the lounge," Jesse told us. "During the closure we encourage our loyal fans to visit at our 498 Sanchez St. location, 411 Valencia St. location, and 730 Howard St. space for the same delicious food and teas."
We'll keep you posted on the new tea bar's progress towards reopening.
