Lower Haight Leftovers For A Sunny SaturdaySugarfoot Grits. (The Dapper Diner/Yelp)
We've got news on a new restaurant, a market makeover, Halloween predictions and more in this week's Lower Haight leftovers.

First, prepare to say goodbye to the New Santa Clara Market at 799 Haight, and hello to Haight Fine Foods & Spirits. As the two Santa Clara Markets prepare to merge into a single space at 798 Haight, a recent liquor license application reveals that 799 Haight (on the south side of the street) will soon have a new occupant. Stay tuned for more info on this one. (An earlier version of this story got the addresses confused — apologies for that.)

Tablehopper reports that Lower Haight resident and chef Melissa Perello is opening a new restaurant. In our profile of Perello last May, the chef/owner of popular Castro restaurant Frances revealed that she was on the hunt for a space to house a new venture. Well, now she's apparently found it at 1701 Octavia, home to the soon-to-close Baker & Banker. We've reached out to Perello for details and will update if we get any more info.

In other restaurant tidbits, we're halfway through Sugarfoot GritsSaturday morning pop-up at Wing Wings, so get down there next Saturday while the grits (pictured above) are hot.

There was more local filming of the HBO show Looking this past week. A scene was shot Thursday at the temporary Spirit halloween shop in the former Blockbuster space at 160 Church Street.

The show will also be filming an exterior scene this coming Thursday, October 23rd from 10pm to 7am on the 700 block of Haight.

The Chronicle ran a piece on Wednesday about Cuco's closing, calling it a "major step" (in a negative direction) for the block, and just the latest casualty of a changing city. "Rising rents and condo projects are one part of San Francisco’s new look. But another part is vanishing: the small, familiar places that are a comfort in a city rushing forward."

And finally, wondering how Costumes On Haight prepares for a huge holiday like Halloween? Check out this interview with manager Chuck Nicklow, posted this week on Square's blog. Nicklow predicts characters from Robin Williams movies might be particularly hot costumes this year.

Enjoy your sunny Saturday, gang.
