Stolen Car Chase Ends In Crash On Hayes And Lyon
Published on October 28, 2014
Commuters biking through NoPa or the Panhandle around 9:30am this morning may have noticed a number of police cars, caution tape, and ambulances in the area. No, the people attacking cyclists haven't been caught, yet. This morning's incident involved a car chase that ended with a crash into the garden of an apartment building on the southwest corner of Hayes and Lyon Streets.
According to SFPD spokesperson Gordon Shyy, officers were on a routine patrol in NoPa at 9:20 am when they spotted a car that had been reported stolen. After running the plates to confirm that it was indeed a stolen vehicle, the police attempted to pull the car over. The vehicle unsuccessfully made a u-turn on Lyon and Hayes before crashing into a planter box outside the house on the southwest corner of the intersection.

The driver (a juvenile) fled on foot before being apprehended by police in the Panhandle. Both the driver and the adult passenger were transported to SF General Hospital for safety measures, Both reported to be unhurt.
So there you have it—the neighborhood's morning drama. We're glad no one was hurt. Remember folks: stay alert, even on sidewalks.
