On Thursday, December 4th, the Upper Haight will try its hand at a First Thursday night out.
Aimed at attracting new visitors and supporting local businesses in the area, the effort is being spearheaded by Adam Brodner of Haight Street milliner Goorin Bros., who is pulling together neighborhood support to establish a regular, dedicated monthly night out for locals in the Haight.
The idea, Brodner said, is to provide "great shopping, delicious food, live music and art displays," and to give merchants on the street a chance to showcase the Haight to a citywide crowd.
"The Haight is a local gem that is often overlooked by San Franciscans," Brodner said. "The tourists and folks who live in the neighborhood know exactly how the Haight has evolved, but the city at large has no idea what all is available on our little street."
Brodner told us that Goorin Bros. plans to participate by hosting its pre-holiday shopping kickoff night on Thursday the 4th, which will include booze-assisted hat browsing.
It's unclear this early in the process how many other merchants will participate, Brodner said, but stores that have already signed on include Amoeba, Ambiance, Skunk Funk, Shoe Biz, Mom’s Tattoos, and Black Scale. Brodner is currently drumming up neighborhood support for even more merchants to be included.
Stay tuned for more details about First Thursdays and what to expect from the Upper Haight's maiden voyage in early December.
