Unlike most of us, Lower Haight news doesn't take a break just because it's Thanksgiving. So, loosen your belt and make some room for the following cornucopia of local tidbits, or something.

First, let's talk about today.

Danny Coyle's (668 Haight) will be open today at 4pm for the Seahawks / Niners game. Choux (248 Fillmore) will be open from 10am to 2pm. Indian Oven opens at 9:45am.

Tonight, Mad Dog in the Fog (530 Haight) will be open for a Turkey Trot Dance Party from 9pm to 2am. Resident DJ Getty and special guest DJ Kris Grant will provide the music, with dancers by P-Kok, beer and Jell-O shot specials, and no cover. "Gobble gobble, then drink till ya wobble," as they put it.

Meanwhile, Glass Key Photo, Costumes On Haight, Life, Wing Wings, B Parlor, Wonderland, House of Thai 2, Sushi Raw, Haight Pizza, Mythic Pizza, Memphis Minnie's, Raijin Sushi, Palmyra, Uva EnotecaKate's Kitchen, Two Jacks, Ming Yao H, and Thep Phanom will all be closed today.

Know of something else that's open (or closed) today? Let us know in the comments and we'll update accordingly.

Now, the near future:

Memphis Minnie's (576 Haight) will have a special menu this weekend for what would have been the 68th birthday of founder Bob Kantor, who passed away last December. On both Saturday and Sunday, the restaurant will feature four of bob's favorite specials: Texas Brisket Cheese Steak Sandwich, Fried Po' Boy, Red Beans and Rice, and Smokehouse Porchetta. There will also be 3 sake specials on the weekend menu.

On Saturday night, Mad Dog (530 Haight) hosts a Thanksgiving DanceOff, sponsored by P-KOK. From 9pm to 2am, dance to the tunes of DJs  Kris Grant, Joe Kennedy and Lady Footlocker while trying to win the $50 prize for the best dancer. There's no cover, and it's 21+.

Also on Saturday night, DSF (530 Haight) will feature the opening of "Art for the People," and art show by Justin Bua. The artist will be on hand with the debut of new works, plus there will be food and drinks as usual. The opening reception runs from 5pm to 10pm.

And finally, Black Sands (701 Haight) has started taking reservations for its homebrew classes, which begin on December 13th. Participants will learn from Black Sands' head brewer as he demonstrates the entire brewing process. The classes last 6 hours and cost $50 — there are only 12 seats available per class, so if you're interested, act quick.

That's all for today, pilgrims. Whatever your turkey day might entail, here's hoping it's a good one.
