People's Cafe, Great Indian For Sale In The HaightPhoto: Camden Avery/Hoodline
The Upper Haight revolving door retail/restaurant situation continues, as two more restaurants space appeared for sale this week.
Great Indian opened its doors at 1793 Haight in April of 2013, after Kan Zaman closed. Recently, it expanded into tikka masala pizza territory to supplement its menu of inexpensive Indian buffet-style sundries.

However, it seems pizza wasn't enough to fill the enormous 2,300-square-foot restaurant space, because it's listed for sale on Loopnet as of this week. The business is going for a cool $199K, or $7,200 per month, and it includes all the fixtures, plus a beer and wine license. "Seller is absentee owner and would like to pass on this opportunity to someone who wants to be hands-on to make more profitable or take over as it is," the listing reads. "Future owners can change the concept or keep it the way it is."

Also up for sale this week is People's Cafe at 1419 Haight. People's Cafe, you might remember, reopened in the summer of 2012 after a lengthy closure due to a fire that took out its kitchen.

The 1,500-square-foot space "with great potential" is going for $295K, or $12,951 per month. People's Cafe has been in the neighborhood since at least 2005, and is a beloved spot to locals. We're sure the cafe will be missed if anything changes dramatically under new ownership.

Though a restaurant space for sale is never a good portent for the business in question, it doesn't necessarily spell the end, as owners may just be testing the commercial real estate market. We'll keep you posted with updates.
