If you have a record collection, chances are you have at least a few old albums that exhibit that classic crackling sound when you play them. Whether or not you find these imperfections charming, they're actually a sign of dust and grime that have accumulated in your records' grooves over the years.

This Saturday, bring your dirty vinyl friends on down to Rooky Ricardo's (448 Haight), where a company called Originals Vinyl will be hosting a record cleaning event. Originals does something called ultrasonic cleaning, blasting your 45s or full albums with high-frequency waves to dislodge the unwanted funk.

The result, according to Originals, is improved playback and and reduced popping and clicking, a transformation which should not only boost your records'  sound quality, but their value as well. (This ultrasonic cleaning won't correct your records' scratches or other physical damage, sadly.)

On Saturday, from noon to 6pm, the Originals team will be on hand at Rooky Ricardo's for an afternoon of cleaning services. The cost is $2.50 per record, and they'll clean up to three records per person. If the event proves successful, they'll likely do it again in the future.

Keep an eye on Rooky's Facebook page for more details.
