Relive Spa Coming To Former Papa's Market On ChurchPhoto: Steven Bracco/Hoodline
In recent months, the storefront at 3699 17th St., formerly Papa’s Market, has undergone a soft-story retrofit and a change of use. It's set to reopen early next year as Relive Spa, a massage parlor.
After submitting the change of use application on October 31st, the business quickly won approval from a variety of city departments and was issued a permit by the Planning Department on November 10th. Construction crews have already started work to turn the space into a fully functioning spa. We spoke with contractor Kris Yamagiwa yesterday and he told us that the work is anticipated to take about three months. So look for Relive Spa to open sometime around February or March of next year.

Options were already limited for places to pick up a case of beer or bottle of wine on your way to Dolores Park, and with Papa’s gone they’re even more so. Sitting right between two schools, Everett Middle School and Mission High, Papa’s Market was also a popular place for kids to pick up snacks after school. The fluorescent sign above the entry is still visible, but it’s only a matter of time until it’s taken down.

This leaves Cerveceria de Mateveza and Bi-Rite Market, both of which have a great selection of craft beer, F&G Market, a solid corner store, and a few others along Guerrero as the only liquor stores within walking distance of the park. And, while it doesn't exactly count (unless you're just looking for a cheap six pack or tall boys) you can always walk up to 7-Eleven at 18th and Noe.

The change is sure to go unnoticed until that random hot-weather weekend when everyone flocks to the park and one of your friends ventures off to pick up some beer, only to realize Papa’s has closed. You will be missed, Papa’s Market.

On the bright side, you’ll now be able to stop in for a massage after lying uncomfortably on the grass all day.

As the construction moves along and we learn more about Relive Spa, we'll keep you updated.
