It's a holiday week, meaning there are fewer live music events on the calendar than usual. But if you're staying in town, we've found a few local shows for your enjoyment.
Tuesday, December 23rd
Act: Vinyl
Location: The Addition
Start Time: 8pm
Price: $10
Originally conceived in the Bay Area 14 years ago as an instrumental project, Vinyl has become a shining example of musicianship and collaboration. The players share a long and storied history together, developing into a tight ensemble. On this particular night at The Addition, the group will perform a tribute to James Brown with assistance from Fred Ross (best known for fronting his own eponymous project). Given their reputation (and the ticket price), Vinyl is certainly one to check out.

Saturday, December 27th
Act: Blind Melon
Location: Great American Music Hall
Start Time: 8pm
Price: $26
Blind Melon is responsible for at least one of the most recognizable songs of all time (1993's "No Rain"). The near-instant, enduring ubiquity of that song kept the group in the hearts of many for years, even throughout the tumultuous history of the band that includes the overdose and death of original lead singer Shannon Hoon, as well as the departure and return of his replacement Travis Warren. Although the last new record from Blind Melon was released in 2008, the group still retains a loyal fan base, and now brings its sound back to San Francisco once again.

Act: Questlove
Location: Public Works
Start Time: 9pm
Price: $15-30
Finally, it's not quite live music, but we still wanted to let you know that Questlove will be spinning a DJ set at Public Works this Saturday night. The Roots frontman (and bandleader for Jimmy Fallon) will be joined on the bill by DJs Gordo Cabeza and Deejay Theory.
