Central Haight Market Plotting Next-Door CafePhoto: Camden Avery/Hoodline
It looks like cafe life is shaking up at in the vicinity of Haight and Central.
We recently let you know that Ritual Coffee will be opening in the 1300 Haight storefront sometime next year. It now looks like the Central Haight Market, across the street at 1301 Haight, will be getting the jump on cafe activity, as the county clerk has recognized a fictitious business name for "Cafe Mec" at that address.

We checked in with Tareq Alsalt, from the Central Haight Market, and asked what plans for the cafe entail.

Alsalt said that the neighboring storefront, formerly the Central Haight coffee and sandwich shop, would be reopening after having the floors and interiors re-done. The cafe space, which abuts the Larkin Youth Center satellite, is indeed part of the Central Haight Market, Alsalt said.

There's currently no word on when the cafe will be open for business or what exactly its offering might be, but Alsalt said the work to be done was relatively minimal, so we'll be keeping a close eye on it. The Central Haight Market on the corner will remain in operation as-is.

In other business news, the answer to tipster inquiries about 1501 Haight, formerly known as Haight Ashbury Vintage, is that the space is closed up for a simple soft-story retrofit to comply with new city building code requirements. A new tenant for the space hasn't yet been secured, but we'll be sure to keep you posted.
