Community Meeting Tonight To Discuss Urban School's Expansion
Tonight at 6pm, Saint Agnes Parrish on Masonic will host a community meeting to discuss Urban School's expansion plans.
Back in August, we reported that the school was filing a conditional use permit to  expand classrooms and other facilities into the Saint Agnes parking lot space on Oak Street.

Since then, there have been some updates. Organizers have confirmed that there will be underground parking and a green space on the roof, and that classrooms, locker rooms, and other student life spaces will go into the new space. They've now done a traffic impact study, and have been granted an environmental review "categorical exemption" from the Planning Department, which essentially means that it's been determined that the project will not have a significant environmental impact.

Tonight, neighbors, faculty, Saint Agnes parishioners, and representatives from Urban will be on hand to review the changes, discuss the timeline for completion, and give a detailed description of plans for the new space.

Here's another concept sketch of the new expansion, from Urban's website

According to Urban's most recent newsletter, the school plans to have the new facilities completed by Fall 2016. There will be a final presentation before the Planning Commission in early 2015, and construction is scheduled to begin in the spring, which means that tonight's community meeting is an important opportunity to give feedback to Urban about their plans before the project breaks ground.

As always, we'll keep you updated, and let us know if you've got thoughts or feelings about the expansion as plans forge ahead.
