We told you about the pop-up tree at the Haight Ashbury corner back in 2012. The tree, which starts out plain and gradually accumulates ornaments throughout the last few weeks before Christmas, was traditionally put up every year by Wrecking Crew member and one of the Diggers, Fast Eddie. Last year, however, the tree was abruptly taken down shortly after it appeared.

Fast Eddie died in July of this year (read his memorial here), but his legendary tree lives on. We spotted some folks stringing lights on a spruce in front of the t-shirt shop on Sunday night. They turned out to be Fast Eddie's family, who intend to carry on the tradition in his name.

"2014 / To our brother Fast Ed / Merry Christmas / RIP / We love you"

The tree is in the same spot as his memorial, which his family set up following his death in August. It eventually grew to take up much of the corner.

We'll see if the tree sticks around this year.
