Fish & Chips Pop-Up Returns To Wing Wings TonightFlickr / Lindsay Smith
Remember back in June, when the Batter By The Bay pop-up took over Wing Wings? We've got good news for fish n' chip fans:  the event returns to 422 Haight St. tonight.

Gill Fitzgerald, former Nickies bartender and current Lower Haight enthusiast (and proprietor of Virgil's Sea Room on Mission Street), is the brains and brawn behind the pop-up. Gill's bringing some tastes of her native Ireland to the hungry masses of the Lower Haight, with a menu that will include ...

  • Speakeasy Big Daddy IPA-battered fish and chips
  • Battered sausages from 4505 Meats
  • Battered chicken hearts
  • Battered black pudding
  • Mushy peas
  • Beans
  • Fried okra and bread & butter pickles from McVicker Pickles
... and more.

If you donate $2 to Gill's charity of choice, Concern USA (a "humanitarian organization ... working towards the ultimate elimination of extreme poverty in the world’s poorest countries"), she'll batter and fry your dessert for you.

SFWeekly's Anna Roth, who sampled Gill's fish and chips during the June edition, describes the dish thusly:

"Its Speakeasy beer batter was crisp and light; the cod inside was soft and moist — and crucially, you couldn't really tell where one ended and the other began. They had fused into one beautiful bite."
So there you have it.

Batter By The Bay will be in full effect from 5pm to 9pm tonight. You can get more info and RSVP here.
