The perpetually-empty space at 803 Divisadero St., at one point advertising palm reading services and tarot card readings, has officially closed its doors to prospective customers hoping for a glimpse into the future.

Inconsistent hours and an aversion to local media in the past means that for us, as well as many Divisadero residents, the space has largely remained a mystery. Our attempt to reach out to the owner earlier this year was quashed when she stated that talking to the press was bad for her energy.

A permit application to the Planning Department shows that the business, listed as "Readings by Nina," applied for a change of use permit in January, 2012. "The proposed Fortune Teller Use is considered to be a 'personal service use' under Planning Code Section 790.116.," the report reads.

The space is called "Nina's Psychic Shop" on Yelp, and contains the following statement from proprietor Nina P.:

"I am born gifted psychic. I've been reading people since I was seven years old. If you are ready for a true powerful reading and the answers to your biggest question. Call for an appointment today for a better tomorrow."

The Yelp page has only one review, from earlier this year:

"Have been trying to get a palm reading here for months, for some reason I can never been seen. Go figure, it's almost like it's not really a business, strange." - Greg S.

Two official complaints were lodged to the city about people living in the commercial space over the last couple years. The first was in September of 2012, and a second complaint was filed in September of 2013. "Property is zoned commercial and not residential, yet there are people living in there," reads the latter complaint.

According to Trulia, a 1,100 square foot space listed at 803 Divisadero sold for $650,000 on October 1st, 2014, but the space is listed as a residential condo, further thickening the plot.

Nevertheless, construction on the ground-floor space started early last week, and all interior walls have been demolished. Currently gutted, a peek through the windows reveals a large open space. As to what the future holds for the space,  our crystal ball hasn't revealed anything yet, but we'll keep you updated as we learn more.
