Souls Of The Upper Haight IIPhotos: Dijon/Souls of SF
We continue our photo series with another installment of brief on-the-street interviews and snapshots from our friend Dijon of Souls of San Francisco

Today, we present a few portraits that Dijon took recently in the Upper Haight.

“I want to contribute to the world by helping people. Whether it's standing up for people, volunteering my time to a shelter, or even giving up my seat on Muni, I'd like to make a difference any way I can.”

“Dancing makes me happy!”

“I just bought a one-way ticket to Costa Rica to live in the jungle and shit.”

“What do you want to do there?”

“Volunteering, WWOOFing, organic farming. Trying to find a shaman and do ayahuasca.”

“So you’re into spiritual searching?”

“Yeah I would say so, healing work. Living holistically.”

“What do you want to do with your life once you find some answers?”

“Help the healing process through energy healing, reiki, yoga, crystals, teach meditation to help people release stress.”

“What are you passionate about?”

“Acting.”

“So you want to be an actor?”

“I do, but I’m also a realist so I’m taking general education classes at City College.”

“What’s the biggest struggle you’ve overcome, how’d it change you as a person?”

“My biggest struggle was learning to love myself. It took me 20-something years to be able to make decisions without regards to what my significant other, friends or family would think. It takes a certain amount of self-assurance to do whatever you want without worrying about how it would make someone else feel. Now it's like a huge burden was lifted and I'm happier and more confident. A friend once said "it's your life" and for me, there was so much power in that statement.”

“What’s your dream?”

“My dream is to curate a brand that truly represents my personal style, to be madly in love, to travel often and to touch lives along the way.”

“Why do you love fashion?”

“I have a desire to express my creativity and that's what fashion does for me. It makes me feel good, it excites me and it's where my mind wanders to, that's love isn't it?”

“Totally. I feel that. And last question ... how do you want to make the world a better place?”

“By spreading kindness. A little kindness can go a long way.”
