Aviator Nation To Move Into Former Haight Ashbury Vintage Storefront

The storefront at 1501 Haight St, formerly Haight Ashbury Vintage, has been closed since August when a 100 percent rent hike relocated the shop to 1711 Haight. In the meantime, the building owner has been taking advantage of the vacancy to complete a soft-story retrofit, but it looks like plans are firmed up for a new tenant.

The new tenant, as tipster Neil S. observed, is confirmed as Southern California-based clothier Aviator Nation, a retailer of surf-oriented and vintage-inspired tanks, hoodies and more, founded back in 2006.

Owned by Paige Mycoskie, Aviator Nation announced the move via Instagram last week. The company is based in Malibu, with stores in Venice Beach, Santa Monica and Manhattan Beach. This appears to be their first brick-and-mortar foray into Northern California.

Word is still vague on when the store will open its doors, but there are signs of progress underway in the space already.

Aviator Nation announces its style as informed by vintage t-shirts and hoodies, to the extent that vintage clothing aficionado Mycoskie sought out sewing machines and fabrics that could duplicate the quality of stitching and texture found in clothes actually made in the 1960s and '70s.

The sartorial fare at Aviator Nation is predominantly hoodies, t-shirts, sweatpants and shorts in the $75-to-$175 range. Aviator Nation has gotten some style nods since its inception, including a feature in GQ magazine.

We'll keep you informed as we hear more about plans for the new location.
