French Retailer Acoté Debuts Hayes And Laguna LocationMeaghan Clark/Hoodline

Last year, we tracked the evolution of 597 Hayes St. from its time as In Bed, which closed in May, to news of an upcoming Cotélac outpost. Now, it’s official: Acoté, a small outlet of the French brand Cotélac, is now open on the corner of Hayes and Laguna.

This is the first U.S. location dedicated to the smaller sister brand of Cotélac, and it will offer contemporary pieces for both men and women. Hayes Valley was a natural fit for the European brand, explained store manager Nicole Nakamato, who has been with the company for three years. “Hayes Valley is a very unique, one-of-a-kind area with a very European feel,” she said. “Catherine Groener, the U.S. director, chose this part of San Francisco for the first Acoté because of its particular vibrant and creative community.”

The Hayes Valley location will carry the complete Acoté collection, said Nicole, as well as the newest Cotélac collection for men. The brand’s original San Francisco location, Cotélac on Fillmore Street, had previously carried a small capsule collection of Acoté. Now with the opening of Hayes Valley’s dedicated location, the retailer on Fillmore will remove all of it’s Acoté inventory.

“The two collections will now be under separate roofs,” said Nicole. “This same formula is applied in France.”

The clothing line features classic pieces focused on basics with playful colors and prints. The successful brand, which was founded in 2004, has collaborated with a number of influential up-and-coming photographers including Paul Arnaud and Theo Gosselin (the latter collaboration is now selling at the new shop).

The Acoté spring/summer 2015 collection is currently available at the Hayes Valley location, plus there's a sale on both men's and women's clothing lines now (up to 50 percent off). Stop by the new location at 597 Hayes St. to check out the new addition.
