Sunset Weekend: Keith Haring, Rare Magnolias, Warriors Vs. Celtics

It's finally Friday, and there's lots going on in the neighborhood this weekend. Here's what you'll need to know to plan your Inner Sunset activities for the days ahead.

Friday

SF Restaurant Week runs from January 21st to 30th, and Pacific Catch (1200 9th St.) is the only Inner Sunset eatery participating. If you enjoy seafood (and a full bar), pop in to order a prix fixe lunch for $25 or dinner for $50.

Art is forever, but the Keith Haring exhibition at the de Young Museum ends on February 16th. If you've missed the exhibit so far, look out for extended Friday hours for the show, which will be viewable for just $15 from 5:30–9pm tonight and all Fridays until mid-February. Book online for the $15 rate; once you're there grab a cocktail on the main level of the de Young to start your weekend off.

Saturday

Visit the San Francisco Botanical Garden on Saturday at 1:30pm for the Magnificent Magnolia Tour. The garden contains 51 unique species of magnolias, as well as 33 cultivars - new hybrids created by selective breeding. If you’re a flower fan, this is your jam; keep an eye peeled for Magnolia campbellii, the first magnolia to bloom in the United States.

If you love The Beatles, own a black shirt and would like to brighten someone else’s day, join The Beatles Choir as they perform for residents and staff at Laguna Honda Hospital. Organized by City Church, volunteers will gather in the hospital’s lobby at 9:30am to meet choir directors Matt Ridenour and Christie Chew before rehearsing and touring the hospital.

Sunday

The Inner Sunset Farmers’ Market makes eating local, healthy food incredibly straightforward. Hop the N-Judah to 9th & Irving and head to the parking lot around the corner (don’t forget your shopping bags). It’s too early in the season for most fruits, but January is a great time to stock up on citrus and vegetables. This week’s featured product? Butternut squash.

Whether you’re a hardcore fan or a casual bandwagon jumper, watching the 34-6 Warriors with a lively crowd enhances the experience. Mucky Duck Pub (1315 9th Ave.) is a sports bar where “everyone is welcome,” so Celtics fans should also feel comfortable cheering on their team. Opening tip is at 5 pm, but arrive early to stake out a good spot.
