The saga of 1668 Haight St. continues in this, its newest chapter: earlier this month, 1668 Haight Street re-opened as Tikka Masala Pizza, née Savri, née Tikka Masala.

The new opening is the latest installment in a long history of recent openings and closings that date back to a fire in the winter of 2009 that left the space vacant for over a year.

The new opening, anticipated since its casual storefront announcement in November, comes a mere six months after the restaurant re-opened as Savri, an operation with different ownership to Tikka Masala but similar offerings. In the interim, Savri had begun to turn around Tikka Masala's reputation for atrocious cuisine, at least according to Yelp.

Tikka Masala Pizza retains the same ownership as Savri, with a different twist.

The re-opened space includes pizza ovens and a renovated front-of-store setup, with a heated food counter on the left and seating in back.

The menu, weighing in at just over 100 options, features an assortment of typical pizzas (cheese, Hawaiian, etc.) ranging from $16 to $24, and Indian pizzas (tikka masala or "Indian," in either chicken or vegetable options) ranging from $18 to $28.  There's also an assortment of tandoori dishes, vegetarian offerings, biryanis, and lamb, seafood or chicken dishes, all ranging from $8 to $14. Drinks include mango lassi and mango shakes.

Indian pizza, for the record, is also on the list of offerings over at Great Indian Food (1793 Haight), which opened nearly two years ago and which constitutes Tikka Masala Pizza's greatest competition in the 'hood.
