This past Friday afternoon, Veo Optics at 2101 Market Street papered over its windows and posted signs letting the Castro know that the business had moved to a new location at 19th and Valencia.

The eyewear retailer still has four other locations in San Francisco including the Marina, Financial District, Embarcadero, and Union Square, making the Mission location its fifth outpost.

It is not clear whether there is a new tenant planned for the space, which sits on the southwest corner of the busy intersection. Veo's closing will make it the third vacant corner retail space at Church and Market, with the long-empty Home location (northwest corner) planned for housing and the building at 2099 Market St. (southeast corner) currently undergoing planning review for renovation and restoration, with no plans for tenants as of yet. That location is considered a historic resource by the Planning Department.

The former Home location at 2100 Market St. is still undergoing environmental review from the SF Planning Department for a proposed 7-story, 64-unit building with ground floor retail and parking.

Meanwhile, if you're looking for a place to get new designer specs, the Castro still has you covered. There's EyeGotcha at 586 Castro St., Specs in The City & Cheaters Too at 4126 18th St., Urban Eyes at 2253 Market St. and for plain eyewear to protect from the sun, the Sunglass Hut at 511 Castro St.
