Some local restaurant updates, an exhibit of rock music photos, and a trendy cup of soup all made our list of Hayes Valley news leftovers this week.

As if you need another reason to order the German Chocolate Cake at Absinthe Brasserie & Bar, this week the James Beard Foundation announced its semifinalists and Bill Corbett of Absinthe Brasserie & Bar was named in the Best Pastry Chef category. A few other San Francisco classics made the list, including chef Traci Des Jardins of Hayes Valley's own Jardinière in the Outstanding Chef category. See the complete list here

In case you missed your Fig & Thistle fix this week, the hidden gem is back after shutting down for a few days earlier this week for a "bar facelift." Angel Davis, the former Alembic hostess who co-owns the place with pal Nguey Lay, says they're working on a new wine retail program, and are also making room for more people and wines. While the renovations aren't quite complete, the 500 square foot bar has reopened with regular hours.

For any longtime Noise Pop fans, there is much to look back on in year 23. Share the spotlight with some of Noise Pop's longtime rock photographers at 23 for 23: Celebrating Noise Pop Rock Photographers at Hotel Biron this month. "These Noise Pop photographers essentially work for free, so this is an opportunity to see some of the great shots they take," said Noise Pop Curator Rachel Frothingham, who has been curating art shows for nearly a decade (she can't remember how long its been). The show opened Thursday and will be available for viewing pleasure (and purchase) until the end of the month.

It's supposed to be chilly this weekend, but Proposition Chicken has your answer to the breeze: bone broth. Yes, the New York trend has reached the West Coast in the form of sweet simmering chicken bones-and-water sauce, according to EaterSF. The broth simmers with apple cider vinegar for 24 hours and is $5 for a 12-ounce cup. Grab a to-go cup today.

And just in case you've been living under a rock, the new Steve Jobs biopic has been filming at the Opera House and Davies Symphony Hall this week. Thanks to our new friends at Film SF we were able to get the scoop on what Kate Winslet, Seth Rogen, and Michael Fassbender have been up to since arriving in our hood (spoiler: filming). Filming will continue for the next few weeks.
