New Kim Alter Restaurant To Replace Stelline, Las EstrellasPhoto: Rose Garrett/Hoodline

A month ago, we reported that Stelline had closed its doors for a renovation, but noted that a reopening of the restaurant was in question. As Inside Scoop reports, we now know that Stelline will not be reopening, and will instead undergo a transformation into a new restaurant by chef Kim Alter, formerly of Haven and Plum in Oakland.

Las Estrellas, the casual taqueria next door, will also be closing its doors and the additional space used to expand the new restaurant's footprint.

Alter, whose previous restaurants have been part of the Daniel Patterson Group, shared some hints about her new project with Berkeleyside back in September. "I will be under the DPG umbrella, but it will not be a DPG restaurant," she said. "My new place will still be market driven, like most of the restaurants in San Francisco."

According to Inside Scoop, the new restaurant will have around 40 seats, and a "casual tasting menu format" will be the theme. No further details have been released, but we'll keep a close eye on this rapidly changing stretch of Gough Street. The block saw the closure of Bibliohead last year, in addition to the recent news of Stelline and Las Estrellas, both known as affordable neighborhood eateries.
