Arthur Murray Dance Studio Headed To Former Yoga Loft Space

The second-floor space at 321 Divisadero Street has sat vacant since a fire hit the property in December of 2013, forcing former tenants Yoga Loft and The Other Store to close for good. Now, the former yoga studio has a new tenant, and one that arguably fills a niche along Divisadero Street: a ballroom dance studio.

Yes, Arthur Murray Dance will be opening its only San Francisco location along Divisadero Street this year. Named after the dancer Arthur Murray, the studio offers both private and group lessons in ballroom dance, salsa, swing, and other partner dances. There are over 260 Arthur Murray studios in 21 countries around the world. The Divisadero outpost will mark the company's second official foray into San Francisco (after a location in the Sunset closed in 2005).

All Northern California locations of Arthur Murray studios are owned by husband-and-wife team Chris & Daisey Lynam, who have launched studios in Hayward, Livermore, Walnut Creek and Redwood City. Arthur Murray International board chairman Phillips Masters and president John Kimmins voiced their support for both the studio and the teaching duo on the company's blog:

"This couple are a wonderful example of what is best in our profession. They were successful dance competitors, run excellent businesses, and have a great family. They now move on to a new phase in their career with the opening of a studio in San Francisco, and we both wish them similar results to their outstanding work in their other studios."

A real estate listing for the 3,524 square foot space describes it as having 12' to 20' ceilings, as well as recently renovated floors, lighting and restrooms. The building was constructed in 1900, and is rumored to have been the former dance studio of legendary San Francisco performer Anna Halprin

The studio is scheduled to open in mid-April. We'll keep you updated as to when it's time to slip on the dance shoes and visit the former home of Yoga Loft.
