A man was stabbed after an altercation at Haight and Clayton in the early hours of this morning, police report.

The SFPD reports that the incident took place at around 2:15am today, after the victim saw the male suspect and a woman in an argument on the sidewalk.

According to Officer Albie Esparza of the SFPD, the victim approached the suspect and said, "Let's settle this around the corner," at which point the suspect stabbed the victim with a knife and fled the scene.

The victim suffered non life-threatening stab wounds to the rib area, and was transported to SF General Hospital. No arrest has been made.

This morning's incident brings to mind a similarly trivial argument-turned-stabbing from August of last year, in which a man was knifed on Haight between Clayton and Cole, apparently following an altercation over a pack of cigarettes.

Though property crimes—vehicle thefts and auto burglaries in particular—have been on the rise in Park District, 2014 saw a drop in violent crime from the previous year, according to Park Station's Capt. Vaswani.

According to city crime data (which has a two week lag), this is the first stabbing incident of 2015 for the Upper Haight neighborhood.
