If you received an eviction notice tomorrow, do you know what you'd do? The San Francisco Anti Displacement Coalition is hosting the SF Tenants Rights Fair from 10am-4pm tomorrow (April 25th) at the Tenderloin Community School at 627 Turk St. to prepare the city's renters for all types of difficult scenarios they may encounter.

The free workshops, which begin at noon, will offer tenants rights information and discussions in English, Spanish and Cantonese for San Francisco renters — including SRO and public housing tenants and Section 8 recipients. Scheduled topics vary widely, from knowing your rights as a renter, to strategies and tactics for negotiating a buy-out, fighting an Ellis Act eviction, community organizing and managing your health and wellness while dealing with an eviction.

The Anti-Eviction Mapping Project will also be recording the oral histories of people who've faced evictions from noon-3pm for a new map the organization plans to exhibit at The Dissidents, the Displaced, and the Outliers, "a transbay visual art exhibition about housing security and digital privacy" that's debuting at galleries in the Mission and Oakland in May.

According to the city's 2015 Annual Eviction Report, which was released in March, 2,120 eviction notices were filed with the Department from March 1st, 2014 through February 28th, 2015 — a 7 percent increase over the same period the previous year. After comparing this data to reports from the past five years, the San Francisco Anti-Displacement Coalition reported that evictions were up nearly 55 percent and will likely continue to climb into 2016.

If those numbers make you queasy or you're currently battling an eviction, you may want to check out the full Tenant Rights Fair schedule and make some room in your weekend agenda tomorrow.
