Mark your calendars, folks: the 38th annual Haight Ashbury Street Fair is coming up on June 14th.

All the usual preparations are already underway. The annual battle of the bands just completed Round 4 (the next round will be held on May 8th at 371 Dore St.). Vendor applications are being accepted. And, as usual for late April, the 2015 poster contest winner has been announced.

The poster, which follows Shane Edward Grogg's fairy theme from last year, is a little different from the normal vibe of the HASF poster, with a green- and blue-on-black aesthetic:

This year's winning entry comes not from a professional artist, but from a local police officer. Her name is Elizabeth (Lily) Prillinger, and you've probably seen her on Haight Street on a bike. According to the most recent Park Station newsletter, she was a graphic design major in college, and she apparently uses this skill more than you might think as a police officer.

From the newsletter: 

"Officer Prillinger has received several awards in art and graphic design which was her chosen major in college. Among her assignment as the Haight Street bicycle/footbeat Officer, she is also one of the many gifted department certified composite and forensic artists.

Officer Prillinger has used her talents in art for the SFPD on several occasions. For example, Officer Prillinger designed a beautiful logo, which is used on the SFPD Park Station t-shirts. The t-shirt has been very popular with the general public. Because this t-shirt was widely circulated among the Haight/Ashbury community, a citizen learned Officer Prillinger was the creative mastermind behind the now famous t-shirt and told her about the annual Haight Street Fair poster contest."

The posters, as usual, were displayed in the window of RVCA, and after the votes were cast, Prillinger emerged as the winner. She'll win a $500 prize from HASF, a $100 gift certificate to Mendel's, and 25 poster reproductions.

Park Station will also celebrate her win at its next community meeting on May 12th at 6pm, where the poster will be on display and Officer Prillinger will be in attendance.
