At approximately 9:58pm tonight, we caught wind of reports—via police scanner and Twitter—about a vehicle leading police on a chase through the Tenderloin:

ABC 7 reports that the vehicle, a black four-door sedan, was driven by armed robbery suspects, damaged two other cars, and may be connected to several robberies over the last few days.

According to Officer Grace Gatpandan of the SFPD, a hit and run occurred at the intersection of Post and Powell streets tonight shortly before 11pm. Officers witnessed a car hitting a pedestrian and pursued the vehicle, but lost the car when it got on the Bay Bridge.

The victim was transported to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries, and is reported to be in critical condition.

Meanwhile, a code 221—or "a person with a gun"—was reported shortly after 10:15pm in the Tenderloin.

Reports came in on the SFPD scanner that a shooting had occurred on Larkin and O'Farrell streets, with a victim shot in the leg. After the shooting, the suspect was rumored to have run eastbound on Geary from Larkin, holding a gun in his right hand.

The suspect was reported through the police scanner as being approximately 25 years-old, wearing a red Gap sweater and red and white Nike shoes.

Northern Station, Central Station and Tenderloin Station police responded to the scene, fanning out across the Tenderloin and transitioning into areas of downtown. Initial plans were to shut off areas of Polk, Larkin and O'Farrell streets in pursuit of the suspect.

A command center was established near California and Kearny streets, with officers urged to proceed to the scene "posthaste."

At 11:07pm, it was reported that the suspect was detained and in police custody.

We've reached out to the SFPD for more details on tonight's events, and will update when we learn more.

Update 4/11/2015 8:45am: Early this morning SFPD Public Information Officer Grace Gatpandan sent out an update, including news of an additional pedestrian who died after being struck by the suspects' vehicle.

According to Gatpandan, the suspects were sought in a series of armed robberies that have occurred around the city over the last three days, including three robberies just last night.

The last of those robberies occurred at 9:55pm last night at Clay and Larkin. An SFPD patrol officer quickly spotted the suspects' vehicle, and units were sent to attempt a vehicle stop. "The suspect vehicle took off and the pursuit began," Gatpandan writes.

The sedan struck a woman who was in the crosswalk at California and Kearny. The victim was transported to SFGH, where she later died from her injuries.

Police continued pursuing the suspects around the city. Another pedestrian was hit at the intersection of Post and Powell, as we reported earlier. That victim suffered non-life-threatening in juries, and as also transported to SFGH.

The suspects drove into SoMa, where they crashed into another vehicle at 8th and Harrison. There were no injuries reported. At this point, the suspects managed to escape the police pursuit.

All patrol units citywide were instructed to be on the lookout for the suspects' vehicle, which was later located on Treasure Island. The car was unoccupied. Two firearms that were believed to be thrown from the vehicle were recovered at Stockton and California.

The suspects are still at large.
