Second 'Ice Cream Bar' Location Headed To The Castro

Mere weeks after Easy Breezy debuted its new frozen yogurt outpost on 18th Street, Eater SF has word of another creamery project headed to the neighborhood. It seems that Cole Valley's The Ice Cream Bar, which opened in 2012, has inked a deal to bring a new ice cream location to the former L'Occitane space at 554 Castro St.

Though it's not yet confirmed that the space will bear the Ice Cream Bar name, Eater reports that the new spot will carry the same housemade ice cream and soda fountain offerings as the original, which has become a neighborhood favorite due to its throwback charm, innovative concoctions and dapper soda jerks.

Also part of the Ice Cream Bar's appeal is its selection of "Remedies", or alcoholic fountain drinks. However, no liquor license application has yet been filed for the new location, which will also have to undergo a change of use application to transition from retail to food service. Menu details are still being worked out, but take a look at the Ice Cream Bar's current menu to see what might be in store.

A fall 2015 opening is the current projection, but with city permitting hurdles to overcome, the opening date may be a moving target.
