Upper Haight Farmers Market Returns Today

The new, improved Upper Haight Farmers Market, hosted by the Pacific Coast Farmers Market Association, is ready to open today—mostly.

The market, which takes place on Wednesday afternoons at Stanyan and Waller, has been modified this year after results came back from a survey of local residents about what they wanted in a farmers market, including types of produce and goods.

According to market manager Jorge Vega, survey responses indicated that the Haight needed more vendors, and a bigger focus on fresh fruits and vegetables, flowers, and sustainably-raised meats.

The market, originally scheduled to debut April 1st and bumped back to the 15th to secure a broader roster of vendors, will be making only a soft launch today, said Alyssia Plata, a spokesperson for PCFMA.

"Unfortunately," she said yesterday, "only five vendors will be coming tomorrow for unforeseen reasons, so we’re making it a soft opening. BUT our full roster is expected to be there next week, so it’ll be much more exciting."

This week will see some vendors, including Kettle Pop, Schletewitz Family Farms, Tomatero Organic Farms, and Roli Roti, and Fraternite Notre Dame.

Next Wednesday, April 22, the market will feature not only the full roster of vendors but also live music and children's events, including a coloring artist, a balloon artist, and a jump house.

The Upper Haight Farmers Market is open Wednesdays, today through the end of October, from 3pm-7pm.
