The long Memorial Day Weekend is just ahead of us. If you're not headed out of town this weekend and are looking for a few things to do, we've got some suggestions.

Friday, May 22nd

Harvey Milk Day
Today marks what would have been Harvey Milk's 85th birthday and the Harvey Milk Democratic Club is hosting a screening of the Oscar-winning documentary,"The Times of Harvey Milk", at the Castro Theatre at 6pm. The event will include a VIP reception and fireside chat with director Robert Epstein, former Assembly member Tom Ammiano, former Supervisor Harry  Britt and many more of Harvey's friends.

Gay Semiotics
Tonight at 6pm at Ratio 3 Gallery in the Mission, it's the opening of the show "Hal Fischer: Gay Semiotics", a series of 24 photographic portraits of gay men in the Castro and Haight-Ashbury being exhibited for the first time in nearly four decades. The exhibit "presents the codes of sexual orientation and identification Fischer saw in the city’s Castro and Haight-Ashbury districts as a tongue-in-cheek anthropological essay."

Saturday, May 23rd

Sidewalk Sale
On Saturday, the Castro celebrates Small Business Week with the neighborhood's Annual Sidewalk Sale. Hosted by the Castro Merchants, businesses all throughout the neighborhood will be taking it to the sidewalk with some specials deals, so make sure you stop by and support our local businesses.

Comedy Queens
Sasha Soprano Presents "The Drag Queens of Comedy" Saturday night at the Castro Theatre with two shows at 7pm and 10pm. Hosted by RuPaul's Drag Race Judge Michelle Visage, the show features drag royalty superstars that include RuPaul's Drag Race Season 6 Winner Bianca Del Rio, Coco Peru, Alaska 5000, Shangela, Willam, Lady Bunny, Jackie Beat, Heklina and Peaches Christ. It's sure to be a fun night filled with outrageous humor and huge personalities.

Sunday, May 24th

Walking Tour
Spend your Sunday morning in the Castro with the San Francisco City Guides and let them lead you on "Castro: Tales Of The Village," a free historical and architectural tour of the Castro. The tour leaves from Harvey Milk Plaza near the rainbow flag at 11am. The Volunteer City Guides, a part of the San Francisco Parks Alliance, lead tours all over the city and are sponsored by the San Francisco Public Library. Donations are gladly accepted.

Dance
Long weekends like this one are best enjoyed on the dance floor. Start off Sunday afternoon at Heklina's popular and newly opened Oasis for "RoyalTea: Memorial Day Weekend Tea Dance." The night continues over at 1015 Folsom with "Sanctuary: Memorial Weekend Military Ball." Get your military dance uniform gear together and "gather up your army and join all the hottest Men in uniform" on the dance floor.
