Fish & Farm Now Open In FiDi, Dinner Service Starts Next WeekMichael Najjar. (Photos: Geri Koeppel/Hoodline)

After a short hiatus and a move from the edge of Union Square and the Tenderloin, Fish & Farm—known for its commitment to local, sustainable, organic ingredients and a seafood-centric menu—quietly reopened May 6th in the FiDi.

It's only serving breakfast, lunch and happy hour for about a week during the soft opening; dinner service will start later next week. George Morrone, who made his name at Aqua and Fifth Floor, among others, is the executive chef and partner, along with Michael Najjar, who also owns Green Bar in 3 Embarcadero Center.

The temporary happy hour menu, which Najjar said will change, includes wine and well drinks for $7, George's special recipe ahi tartare (that's where Michael Mina got the idea) for $11, fish and chips for $10, a half-pound burger for $16 and a selection of decadent desserts for $6–$8.

Breakfast ranges from $8 for a "drunken crumpet" with strawberry-ginger jam to $15 for a breakfast "grilled cheese" and also lemon ricotta hotcakes ($14), an open face country omelet ($14) and more. Lunch features soups ($14), salads ($13), the burger ($16), a tempura basket ($20), a fried chicken BLT skewer ($17) and Petrale sole ($26), among others.

Formerly in the Hotel Mark Twain, 399 Taylor St., Fish & Farm has gleaming new digs in the Club Quarters Hotel at 424 Clay St. The restaurant will be open 365 days a year because it's also doing duty as room service for the hotel. The previous location closed at the end of March and was expected to re-open on Clay Street in mid-April. Elephant & Castle, which was in the space for years, closed December 31st, 2014, and some former employees have returned to the space. And so have regulars of the old bar; a few were there to try it out as of Thursday.

Formerly something of a dive, the restaurant and bar now boasts an "elegant farmhouse" ambiance, with horseshoe-shaped deep maroon-brown booths, sconce lighting, and dark wood and stone accents, including marble tabletops in the lounge. The long bar along the left side remains, but has been spiffed up and shined to a polish. It'll stay open late and offer a specialty cocktail menu.
