Head-On Collision On Laguna Honda Leaves One Driver In Critical ConditionGoogle Street View

At 12:39am Monday morning, SFPD officers from Park Station responded to a two-car collision at 7th Avenue and Laguna Honda Boulevard. According to reports, three victims were transported to San Francisco General Hospital, one with life-threatening injuries.

The incident occurred when a northbound Nissan Rogue carrying three passengers crossed over the center divider and struck a southbound Subaru Outback carrying two people, according to police. The driver of the Nissan was treated for lacerations to the forehead and arm at the scene before heading to SFGH. The Subaru driver had to be extricated from the wreck, sustained critical injuries and was unresponsive at the scene; another passenger was not visibly injured but was also taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure, said an SFPD representative.

The police department's accident investigation team has not yet determined what caused the driver of the Nissan to cross the divider into oncoming traffic. The posted speed limit for the stretch of Laguna Honda where the accident occurred is 35 miles per hour.

In June 2014, a northbound driver a few hundred feet away at Laguna Honda & Clarendon Avenue crossed into the southbound lane and hit a 43-Masonic bus head-on, injuring four Muni passengers and the driver. According to SFPD, the driver of that car was distracted by a GPS device at the time of the incident.

Two ambulances and SFFD's Rescue Captain responded to the scene of this morning's accident. The incident investigation may take up to a week; we'll update this story if more information becomes available.
