Inner Sunset Weekend: Yo-Yos, Yoga, And MoreGeorge Thomas/Flickr

Weekends are back to normal after all the commotion around 4/20 and Bay To Breakers. Here's the latest.

Saturday, May 23rd

If you hear somebody say that they are going to "walk the dog" in Golden Gate Park on Saturday, it might not mean what you think. Starting at 9AM, over 100 of the West Coast’s top yo-yo tricksters will be competing in the 18th Annual Bay Area Classic Yo-Yo Championship. It’s all going to go down and then up and then down again at the Spreckels Temple of Music Bandshell, and If you bring your own yo-yo you can get one of the experts to teach you a trick or two, or you can just sit back and watch the action on the stage. The competition and other yo-yo related activities will last until the 4PM awards ceremony.

Over at the Carousel at Koret Children’s Quarter Playground at 10AM, you can join The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition on a child-friendly ride around the park. The five mile trip will take you from playground to playground, and is perfect for people using child trailers or seats with their bikes. There is a suggested donation of $10 to participate.

Purusha yogis will be teaching yoga at 11AM at Big Rec Baseball Field as they do every Saturday, but this weekend they are having a special fundraiser for earthquake victims in Nepal.

Over in the Parkside there will be a free walking tour at 11AM that will meet at the Parkside Library on Taraval Street at 22nd Ave. The tour will discuss the history of the neighborhood, which is the oldest on the west side of the city, and will show you how to determine the era in which a an area was developed by the architecture of its buildings.

If you are headed in that direction you might want to check out the sidewalk sales on Taraval and Noriega Streets - the final event of Small Business Week 2015. Shops will have their wares out on display starting at 19th Ave and heading out toward the beach.

If you find yourself out by the beach looking for some fun at the end of the day, you can visit the Riptide on Taraval Street and 46th Ave for Bingo Night (6PM-8PM), or listen to some live music at the Honey Hive Collective on Irving Street and 46th Ave (7PM-10PM, All Ages, $10).

Now that Golden Gate Park is back to normal after last week’s Bay to Breakers, it’s a great time to take part in some of the regular Sunday offerings in the park:
