Wondering what to do this weekend? Saturday, May 9th from 11am to 6pm marks the 16th annual Oysterfest, the music-and-oyster festival at Sharon Meadow in Golden Gate Park.
The lineup this year features Thievery Corporation, deelanZ, Grandmaster Flash, GZRUS, K Theory, Late Night Alumni, The Schmidt, and Warren G. (Last year's headliner was Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros.)
Tickets, which are $45 for general admission, include daylong entry to the single-stage show. Food and beverages are not included in the ticket price, but, as the name suggests, food vendors will feature oysters as well as non-oyster offerings for those who want variety, plus cocktails, beer and wine.
According to Oysterfest's website:
There will be oysters from a wide variety of oyster farms throughout California and Baja, The Pacific Northwest and The Atlantic Northeast, a cooked oyster area as well as food of all kinds from some of San Francisco's finest restaurants. All food vendors at the event place a huge emphasis on providing healthy, local, sustainably farmed product.
The festival also features art by Duser, cooking demos and a live "Shuck & Suck" contest. A word to the wise: Oysterfest is 21+, and does not allow outside food or beverages.
Adjacent thoroughfares will remain open during the festival, which will also be offering a shuttle service to and from the UCSF Parnassus parking lot, and which is otherwise best reached on bike (free valet), on foot, or via the 33, 71, or 5 bus lines.
Good luck to all you oyster and music enthusiasts headed to the neighborhood this weekend, and as local homeowners would surely urge, please remember to use the event's bathroom facilities before you head home.
