Community Meeting Monday On Bay To Breakers, Harding Theater, Tenants Rights & More

This Monday marks the third Alamo Square Neighborhood Association meeting of the year, and this one will be jam-packed with hot neighborhood news and speakers.

Supervisor London Breed will be the first to present at the meeting, covering current political legislation that's in progress for District Five.

She'll be followed by Dean Preston, whose name you may recognize from flyers posted around the neighborhood promoting a Tenants Bootcamp. The goal of the bootcamp, which is being offered in ten sessions throughout the city, is to educate tenants on their rights and help prevent problems between renters and landlords before they begin.

With Bay to Breakers taking place tomorrow, the after-effects of the party will most likely be on many neighborhood residents' minds by the time Monday rolls around. Bay to Breakers organizers are sending media spokesperson Chris Holmes to Monday's meeting to provide a summary of the event, and to receive any feedback from the community.

Also in attendance will be Northern Station SFPD Captain Greg McEachern, who will soon be monitoring the area east of Divisadero Street once the city-wide redistricting goes into place later this summer.

Finally, those wondering about the Harding Theater's potential evolution into a bar and arcade, as well as the future of the empty lot next to the theater on Hayes Street, will get some answers on Monday evening. Architect Mark Topetcher will be on hand to present renderings of the condos being built on Hayes Street, and Danny Marks of the Chicago bar/arcade business Emporium will be available to answer questions about his plans for the Harding.

The meeting will take place at 1660 McAllister St. (home to Redemption Church and the Jerusalem Church Of God In Christ). Doors will open for a meet-and-greet at 6:30pm, and the meeting will start at 7pm.

The agenda is as follows (note: times are approximate):

  • 7:00pm District Supervisor London Breed
  • 7:10pm Tenants Bootcamp overview by Dean Preston
  • 7:15pm Bay to Breakers debrief, featuring Chris Holmes from Wasserman Media Group
  • 7:25 Captain McEachern of Northern Station
  • 7:35 Harding Theater presentation by local architect Mark Topetcher
  • 8:00pm Harding Theater / EmporiumSF presentation by business owner Danny Marks

We'll see you there, Hoodline readers.
