Upper Haight Weekend Odds & Ends: Tenant Rights Bootcamp, Orphan Murals And MorePhoto via The Residents

First up, the San Francisco Tenants Union is offering a series of neighborhood tenant rights bootcamps organized, according to the bootcamp website, "to empower renters to stand up to speculators and prevent displacement," and to inform tenants about residential rental law. Nearby sessions are May 28th and 28th at Reverie Cafe, at 848 Cole St. at 7pm.

NOPA will also be hosting a session at St. Cyprian's Church, 2097 Turk St, at 7pm on June 24th. Dates and details for other neighborhoods are available here, as is contact information.

Susan Strolis of the Friends of Alvord Lake recently advertised the need to re-house the six mosaic murals currently adorning the side of the former Boys & Girls Club at Page and Stanyan, which is in the process of undergoing renovation to re-open as a Fei Tian school some time this summer. The murals, shown below, are about five by eight feet. Strolis said placement options were flexible, but that she was hoping to move them to another publicly-used space.


Looking for some easy entertainment? Milk Bar is featuring a folk and blues duo this weekend called Skin & Bones at 5pm on Sunday (no cover). And Amoeba's next free show is next Friday, May 29th at 5pm with Scott Weiland & The Wildabouts.

This also marks the penultimate weekend for viewing the de Young's Botticelli to Braque, which closes after Sunday, May 31st.

If you're feeling shoppy, Fresh Apparel has finally, quietly made the move into their storefront on Haight Street, in the former Bang On location at 1603 Haight.

And finally, but most interestingly, the San Francisco Police Department released an announcement yesterday afternoon requesting assistance in the recovery of a shipping crate containing an eyeball mask valued at $100,000. The box, which was stolen off the porch of its recipient on the 800 block of Clayton. The mask was part of a set of four used by the band The Residents. The box was signed for by an impostor and is currently missing. The police have requested anyone who sees the box, pictured below, please call the SFPD's anonymous tip line at 415-575-4444.
