Wee Scotty On Divisadero And Bush Becomes Core40Image: Google
Starting this month, we're occasionally expanding our Divisadero coverage north of Geary. Got ideas for what we should write about next? Let us know via our tipline.

If you were going to order up a business targeted toward the new, youthful market of "Google Bus" commuters in Lower Pacific Heights, Core40 could be an ideal fit.

After nearly a year of being vacant, the old quirky fashion school, boutique, and sewing school location known as Wee Scotty at 1807 Divisadero Street near Bush has been reborn. It's now a fitness center offering up a time-efficient 40-minute workout regime that was originally developed in Southern California.

The space is now filled with sophisticated treadmill-like workout machines called Megaformers, and lots of high-fidelity speakers blasting appropriate music. Owners Dean and Lisa Grafos of San Diego, have been operating three successful Core40 locations in Solana Beach, Carmel Valley and Little Italy-San Diego for several years. They then opened two San Francisco locations, and the new Divisadero spot is their third location in The City.

Recently named the top workout in North County by San Diego Magazine, this 40-minute experience is designed to produce immediate core and body improvement. Core40's website claims that, "In just 40 minutes, Core40 delivers a full-body workout that utilizes over 600 muscles per session to increase strength, balance, agility and flexibility."

But most important for the busy, time-stressed market that Core40 is reaching, this approach maximizes time efficiency, according to Dean Grafos, joint-owner.

"While some have described Core40 as 'Pilates on crack', Core40 is not Pilates," wrote Grafos on their website. "Rather, it is a fusion of many of the core-focused fundamentals of traditional Pilates, blended with circuit training, strength training and cardio, all performed on state-of-the-art equipment created by fitness guru Sebastien Lagree."

You'll probably burn off a lot more calories visiting Core40 that attending a sewing class at the old Wee Scotty. A sign of the times.
