BMW Thief Causes Morning Melee In Central City [Updated]Photo via Google Street View.

The BMW dealership at 1675 Howard St. in SoMa was the starting scene of a morning melee with a stolen vehicle, according to SFPD.

Here's what we know: At around 5:18am today, SFPD responded to a call of a stolen vehicle/burglary investigation at the BMW dealer. When officers arrived, they saw the dealership's front windows were smashed and cars had been moved around. "From what we gathered," an email from the SFPD says, "a suspect had broken into the dealership and attempted to steal a black vehicle after locating the locked box where the keys are stored. After unsuccessfully attempting to take a vehicle the suspect took another car and drove it through the side window onto the street."

At around 5:23am, SFPD Central Station officers responded to a call of an injury collision and hit-and-run at Mason and Post streets involving a new BMW. That suspect fled the scene after crashing into a parked vehicle where an occupant was sleeping. He was not seriously injured.

Following that, at around 6:30am, an officer from SFPD Southern Station responded to a domestic dispute between a man and woman in the 200 block of 7th Street. When the officer arrived and spoke with the man, age 37, the alert officer during the investigation determined he was the suspect from the burglary and auto theft investigation and the hit-and-run collision earlier in the morning.

The suspect's name is not available yet because he hasn't been booked into County Jail. Charges the suspect faces are pending.

Update: Peter Derouen, a male San Francisco resident, was taken into custody and charged with burglary, two counts of auto theft, attempted auto theft, felony hit and run, felony vandalism, driving on a suspended license, possession of a master vehicle key, possession of stolen property and a traffic warrant. Also, the sleeping occupant of the parked car that was hit is male, and the suspect vehicle was left at the scene and towed for evidence.
