A 50-year-old cable car operator was badly injured when he was hit from behind by a motorcycle as he was stepping off of the Powell & Mason line at 10:27pm Thursday, June 11th.

The motorcyclist was traveling northbound on Taylor between Water Alley and Francisco Street when he struck the man, said SFPD Central Station Capt. David Lazar when we reached him this morning.

The cable car operator suffered life-threatening injuries, including a fractured skull, and was was taken to San Francisco General Hospital. He is in critical condition.

The suspect is a 22-year-old male who remained on scene and was arrested for felony drunk driving. Capt. Lazar said a female passenger on the motorcyle left the scene, but he wasn't sure if she was later located.
