Castro Crime And Safety Roundup: More Pedestrian-Car ProblemsPhoto: Steven Bracco / Hoodline

Time for another roundup of all things crime and safety-related.

Pedestrian hit on Castro Street near 18th Street

You may have heard many sirens on Friday night/Saturday morning around 12:30AM. Witnesses say that a woman in her late 20's or early 30's was jaywalking across Castro Street with her dog and was hit by a Mercedes. The woman was injured and the dog was not. Multiple police cars arrived as well as an ambulance, and the woman was transported to the hospital. Witnesses say that the injuries were not serious.

This is the second pedestrian jaywalking incident in the last week. The previous one on May 27th sent the pedestrian to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. We've reached out to both the police department and Supervisor Scott Wiener for comments on pedestrian safety and how people can be discouraged from jaywalking. We'll update as soon as we hear from either.

Garage Break-In

A Nextdoor member posted photos and a description of two individuals who broke into his garage and stole items on May 21st. Suspects drove a white vehicle, arrived immediately after the owner left their house, and shimmied a side door open. Both suspects are male.
