Skingredient By Danica Moves Into 1915 Page StreetPhotos: Amy Stephenson

If you've walked past 1915 Page St., between Shrader and Stanyan, you might have noticed that the unassuming little store front that used to have the shades drawn has recently undergone some changes.

It was a graphic design studio most recently, but since April of this year, it's home to Skingredient, a skin care studio owned and operated by Danica Green.

1915 Page, incidentally, used to be a graphic design studio called Indicate. Before that, it was a bookshop and occult/witchcraft store called Tools of Magic that made Criminal Intelligence Report's list of Satanic Cults in 1988. Green is unfazed by this, telling Hoodline, "I'm told she was a good white witch ... Part of the appeal for me since I am an energetically aware person."

Why is the new shop called Skingredient? Because, says Green, her approach is holistic and ingredients-focused. She makes most of her products on-site, like kaffir lime and walnut face masks. ("Everyone thinks almonds are the best thing for skin, but it's really walnuts," she told us.)

"My expertise in the field is different than most due to my science background," she told us. "Chemistry, nutritional counseling, massage, healing remedies, cold pressed herbs and customized oils is what goes into a treatment. I work with the skin on a cellular and muscular level for results-oriented treatments."

As for the holistic approach, she's also a nutritionist, and her methods involve looking at your lifestyle, not just putting stuff on your face: "Do you party a lot?" she asked. "Fine, but it would help me out a lot if you'd drink more sake and less vodka."

This is Green's first studio, and she's excited to be in the Haight, where she's lived for almost 10 years with her wife and child. She's been in the skin care (and massage, waxing and makeup) business for over 10 years, bouncing around studios in the Marina. Now that she's based locally, many of her clients have followed her, but she's eager to establish a Haight-based clientele.

To make an appointment with Danica, head to her website (which right now just goes to booking, but will soon be a fuller website), or give her a call at (415) 702-6108.
