Cukui Set To Close By End Of JulyPhoto: Camden Avery/Hoodline

Cukui, the clothing store and art gallery at 1439 Haight St., is winding down its Haight Street storefront for closure by the end of the month. The 1,000 square foot space is currently up for lease, and we've confirmed with the landlord that it's leasing for $7,000 a month.

Jason, an employee who was working at the storefront yesterday afternoon, said that Cukui had only signed on for a year-long lease when it took on the Upper Haight location, and that after the closure of the Haight Street store would redirect business to its first store, located in San Jose.

"We've still got the San Jose store," he said, "so we're just going to work out of there."

Cukui opened in August 2014, joining the ranks of Black Scale, Pink + Dolphin and other urban streetwear shops on the street, most recently Fresh and Bespoke Cut & Sew.

According to the company, "Cukui is rooted from a melting pot of Chicanos, South Pacific islanders, tattoo artists, and graffiti heads." The store carries a mix of Hawaiian-inspired designs, t-shirts, hats and more, so stop by before the end of the month if you're looking to add some Cukui to your wardrobe.
