Last night, two men were assaulted on the 400 block of Divisadero Street, according to the SFPD.

At approximately 9:50pm, a 59-year-old man and a 61-year-old man were walking down the street. They were approached by two male suspects, both ages 18-25, and a fight broke out.

One of the suspects hit the first victim on the head with an unknown blunt object, and then stabbed him in the chest. The second suspect hit the second victim "multiple times on the head with a skateboard or a pipe."

The suspects then ran south on Divisadero and turned west onto Oak Street.

The first victim suffered life-threatening stab wounds to the chest as well as head trauma; the second also suffered head trauma. Both were taken to SF General Hospital for treatment.

Last night, we received a tip from reader Angie regarding the incident:

"I live at Fell and Divisadero ... around 9:15PM tonight our neighborhood was swarmed with SFPD and a couple fire trucks and ambulances.  Wasn't able to get a clear idea of what was going on from the police scanner except some blurbs about two suspects, one fleeing into GGP?  Anyways there was tons of police tape from what I could see out my window, taping off the area where the Laundromat parking lot entry is off of the western side of Divisadero (btwn Fell and Oak), between the Chase bank and the gas station.  My partner used the ATM at the Chase Bank on his way home and inquired about the scene and was told by SFPD that two people were stabbed."

Update, 8/5: The Chronicle reports that a 16-year-old suspect has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, attempted robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. His accomplice remains at large.

The Chron also notes that a machete found on the scene was used in the attack. The stabbing victim's condition has improved, and he is expected to survive.
