Man Badly Injured In Chinatown StabbingPhoto: D B./Yelp

A man, 37, was stabbed in Portsmouth Square in Chinatown around 9pm Sunday after a scuffle with another man and woman who were arguing and causing a disturbance.

The woman, age 35–40, and a man in his 40s were arguing with each other over a cellphone purchase, said SFPD Central Station Capt. David Lazar. A third party, the 37-year-old man, told the other two "they should leave the park because they were disturbing the dancers and everyone else who was there at that time."

"Within about 15 minutes," Capt. Lazar added, "the man and woman then returned. They argued with the guy who had originally told them to leave the park, and a fight ensued." The man who told them to leave the park got the man who was causing a disturbance on the ground.

The woman then jumped on top of the second man who'd told them to leave and started stabbing him multiple times. He was slashed in the head and stabbed in the back with a knife. It happened on the east side of the park on the lower level, Capt. Lazar said.

The victim was transported to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries, but is in stable condition, Capt. Lazar said. The suspects fled the scene on foot.
