Castro Snapshot: Saturday Out And AboutPhotos: Brian Ray/Hoodline

The Castro is a busy on most any day, but it thrives on the weekends as visitors and locals explore and enjoy the neighborhood.

Yesterday, we reviewed the week's news and gave readers weekend events to keep you busy. Today, since we haven't hit the streets with you since March, we went outside for a snapshot of a late August Saturday in the Castro.

Walgreens window, organized by OurTownSF, displays information on the upcoming Folsom Street Fair. "Oh my!" a couple says as they walk by, doing a double-take.

Coffee drinkers and diners enjoy some sun at Réveille Coffee, where a new parklet may be appearing in the future.

A Castro Ambassador greets two visitors near Harvey Milk Plaza, offering them some literature in different languages. "It's been a little slow today," he tells us. "Most likely due to the muggy weather earlier this morning."

Pedestrians wait for a walk signal in one of the newly painted bulb-outs along Market Street, part of a safety improvement plan. Additional dividers have been added to increase safety to those standing in the bulb-out.

Canine friends await their "doom" at the baths at Mudpuppy's at 536 Castro Street. The store has had to put up signs requesting that passersby respect the animals and not tap on the glass or get too close.

We missed a business in our last "Who's hiring" post for the Castro: Citizen Clothing at 489 Castro St. is looking for people with retail experience.

Fresh produce at Buffalo Whole Food & Grain at 598 Castro Street. They get a good deal of business from locals primarily, but some tourists stop by as they explore the end of the main stretch of Castro Street.

Workers renovate the interior of the old Radioshack on Market Street for something new. The space appears to still be for lease, but we'll update if we find anything out.

A local artist sells and displays their gas-kiln pottery at Jane Warner Plaza. "I lived in the city for 12 years, before moving to Berkeley," they tell us. "Now I am trying to sell all my items and move back to the East Coast."

Also at Jane Warner Plaza, another Live! In The Castro event begins with swing lessons.

Finally, a "Farewell" sign from the now departed A.G. Ferrari Foods. There's still no word on what might replace the store.

How do you like to spend your weekends in the Castro? Let us know in the comments.
